PIBS FAQ
Questions paralegals ask before they build.
Search by keyword or flip through the cards below.
How many years of experience do I need?
It isn’t about your “years of experience” because there truly is no magic number. But whatever business and service you offer, you need to be able to execute it with little oversight or micromanagement from the attorney.
Legal assistants with 2–3 years of experience are finding great success offering administrative, client relationship, intake, and assistant-function support.
Watch more on this topicCan legal assistants join too?
Absolutely. Legal assistant, admin, client relationship, intake, and assistant-style support can be a huge lane for success.
PIBS is not only for traditional paralegals doing substantive drafting work.
Do I need to be certified?
No. Jaclyn Foster herself is not certified and did not complete a paralegal education program before scaling her agency to $500k.
Many paralegals inside PIBS are not certified. Certification can definitely help, but it is not required.
Watch the video previewWho is PIBS for?
PIBS is for paralegals, legal assistants, and other legal professionals who want to start a business or scale their existing business for more freedom, income, and career control.
Is PIBS beginner friendly?
Beginner to business? Yes. PIBS supports paralegals with less than three years of experience all the way up to paralegals with decades of experience.
The point is to help you carve out an appropriate business and service lane based on your actual skills, experience, and goals.
Do I need to already have a business?
No. You can come in without even a business concept. Inside the 21-Day Business Mapping Pathway, you will start developing a business idea, service lane, positioning, pricing, and path forward.
Do I need to quit my job first?
Absolutely not. Many paralegals inside PIBS are building quietly while employed until they are able to replace a sustainable income.

Can experienced freelancers still benefit?
Absolutely. PIBS helps experienced business owners refine messaging, improve client acquisition, strengthen marketing, clarify service positioning, hire support, scale intentionally, and think more strategically about long-term growth.
Who is PIBS not for?
PIBS is not for entry-level paralegals who are not ready to perform independently, paralegals with no interest in business ownership, recruiters, self-promotion, unvetted partners, or attorneys.
Attorneys needing matching should use the free attorney matching service.

Yes. Most paralegals who start businesses operate 100% remotely.
What practice areas work best?
Literally all of them. Jaclyn has worked with 500+ attorneys across the U.S. in nearly every practice area imaginable on fractional staffing strategies.
What’s the difference?
They are often used interchangeably. “Freelance” can sometimes carry a side-hustle or unstable vibe, while “fractional” or “virtual” often suggests a more steady, ongoing professional support model.
There is room for every paralegal’s desired business model.
Is PIBS only about freelancing?
PIBS is for paralegals who want to build businesses supporting law firms in a fractional capacity. That may look like freelancing as a side hustle, going full-time as a solo operator, scaling into a team or agency model, or expanding into consulting.
PIBS does not heavily focus on legal course creation, but Jaclyn does have a separate Legal Course Creator Academy.
Legal Course Creator AcademyDo you talk about agencies and team models too?
Absolutely. PIBS includes trainings for paralegals who want to scale into agencies and team models, including hiring, contracts, systems, pricing, insurance, and operational structure.

Members can attend live and ask in real time, or presubmit questions if they need deeper answers but cannot attend live. No topic is off limits.

Yes. One of the biggest appeals of PIBS is the supportive community and networking space of other paralegals building businesses.

What makes PIBS different?
PIBS is hyper-focused on the legal industry, specifically paralegals and other legal support professionals building businesses that serve law firms.
The information is not generic business advice repackaged for everyone. It is directly relevant to the paralegal business model, the legal niche, attorney expectations, law firm workflows, and the real market for fractional legal support.
What kinds of paralegal businesses are represented inside?
PIBS includes paralegals across all 50 states, all practice areas, and a wide range of experience levels and business models.
How does your attorney matching process work?
When an attorney has a need, they fill out a form with Jaclyn and confirm they are comfortable with the market rates of paralegals in business. Jaclyn then looks to the active PIBS community and member profiles for potential matches.
This is not a “cheapest and loudest wins” process. Jaclyn will not submit a paralegal for an attorney match if they are grossly priced under market rate. PIBS exists to elevate paralegals — not keep them stuck below their worth.
Are there success stories inside PIBS?
Yes. You can view member success stories and testimonials online.
View testimonialsCan I join if I’m outside the United States?
Yes, but please note that Jaclyn primarily teaches and promotes paralegals in the U.S. business market and does not have close experience with offshore hiring.
What software or tools do you recommend learning?
Do not be a stranger to case management systems, document signing programs, invoicing tools, and timekeeping systems.
Is this legal advice?
No. Jaclyn Foster is not a licensed attorney. PIBS is business education for paralegals who want to build businesses supporting licensed attorneys under appropriate attorney supervision.
Nothing inside PIBS should be taken as legal advice or a substitute for speaking with a licensed attorney about your specific legal, compliance, contract, tax, or business formation questions.
